Sometimes I can't help but put up a post, RD...
This one needs to be read. We really are sitting on a moment of hope like nothing I've seen since the age of five (summer 1968 ). We must not throw it all away.

What I realize finally, during the past 24 hours or so, is how much I've been wanting this to happen. Not so much the primary win of Obama as the groundswell , the national sigh of relief, the feeling that we are at the beginning of major social change. Long time coming, long time coming.
As for "politician," that's a pretty wide label covering, as it does, J. Christ, most of the Medicis, Gandhi, JFK, RFK, MLK, Newt G., and you and me at times in our lives. The politician in Obama took his win and today went after the kinds of contributions the DNC can accept, the sort of new management it will have, and he continues to handle very neatly the situation with the wicked witch who's holding on so fiercely to national attention.
Andrew Sullivan has a nice little story about someone who Finally Isn't Going To Take It Anymore when it comes to racist talk.

Thanks for making my point on the politicians, PW.
I do believe that Obama is a good politician, and that his chessboard prowess will allow him to run circles around his enemies.
On the other hand, I don't see how anyone can rise to the top of the American political pyramid without stepping over a few "dead bodies." That Obama came out of Chicago's political jungle says that he's a true warrior.

Obama has been in the right places that position him to understand where we are and where we need to be in this country. And though I am still skeptical because of the total political setting we are in, he gives me some hope. And for right now, that's a hell of a lot more than I have had for over a decade.
So cautiously, I'm ready to work for his election with more energy than I have felt for a long time.
