I do remember those Chinook winds coming down from Canada, 80 mph, 80 below with the windchill. Getting off from work at the chemical plant, we'd all walk backwards to the parking lot, keeping our faces out of direct contact with the brunt of the wind. There's a certain point at which the cold becomes life-threatening... and for some reason, I enjoy getting right up against it, even out in it for short periods of time. It probably has something to do with growing up in a desert-like environment, where it rarely (if ever) snowed, and people wore parkas when temps dropped into the low 50's.

I grew up along the NY coast of Lake Ontario. Never again! Gimme SW! Don't forget, it's not just the precip and the cold. Worst of all is the absence of light.
