This is just plain crazy. I wonder if contesting this ticket in Canada is similar to here in the US. I got my first and only ticket when cops standing at a corner proceeded to do what looked like direct traffic around the corner and onto the shoulder. There were 9 of us in a row that did it. Then they came down the line and told us all we got a ticket for turning right on red. WTF?! When I went to court, 70% of the people in the room were there for tickets at that same corner with the same offense. There was even something written in the newspaper about how the city had issued thousands of tickets there in a few months. Others in the court also said they felt they had been told to turn right, but all the judge said was either set a court date or he will lessen the fee. Since I had never had a ticket before, they said it would be cleared from my record if I paid the lesser fee. I wasn't sure if I should set another court date or not. This was all new to me. But I didn't because I wasn't sure how that would all go considering they gave me a BS ticket in the first place. Later in line as I was paying, two people came up to me and said I made the right choice of not going to court from their past experiences. (They had seen/heard me asking the judge my options in court). It's all extortion against law-abiding citizens imo.
