Here're the tragic consequences of U.S. realpolitik. All allies are always good allies if they can let us be winner, at all costs, isn't it?
You know that you're safe because there is someone which prays always for you...

Please stay safe. Why are parts of the ISI and Pakistani army doing this? Pakistan benefits from a prosperous, free and successful Afghanistan.

if you really think the stingers we passed on to our Afghan friends still have battery power and will actually function after sitting around in Afghanistan for 20 years you give us way too much credit. Complex weapons systems have a shelf life. Batteries have a shelf life too. The stingers we left here are a threat only to those Afghans who try to disassemble them to get at the meager explosives in the warhead.

Hi Nasim Jan
I think "baba Tim" has a point, those weapons must be really old by now. I am not knowledgeable about weapons at all, but after 20 years it is weird how those things still function, maybe Taliban have new sources to be equipped???

The Global Financial crisis: The new terrorism battleground
Here is an unsettling thought regarding the global financial turmoil that has suddenly befallen the entire world. When it comes to global banking and finance, coupled with the fact that international commerce and communication has resulted in enormous amounts of confidential data on individuals, banks, corporations, and even entire governments such as the United States, all stored in supposedly secure "cyber warehouses", warehouses that either are, or could soon be vulnerable to Quantum computer attack, because our banks and financial institutions rely on conventional encryption systems that could be ripped open, not in billions of years, which traditional computers require, but rather months, weeks, or maybe even days, by quantum computer attack.
Something similar to this has already happened once. During the Second World War, advances in encryption science and computer technology allowed the Allies to crack open supposedly secure military codes used by the Japanese and Germans. I fear the same thing may be happening right now. Only this time, it is the United States and Western European financial institutions that are being laid bare. The American public just hasn’t been told the horrible truth. Not yet anyway.
Quantum computers are based on theoretical models involving multiple universes. This sounds far-fetched to the average person, but some of the best minds in science subscribe to this theory. In fact, simplified versions of quantum computers are in the development stage, right now. And when it comes to theoretical implications of quantum computer science, don't make the mistake of assuming well-funded criminal organizations such as the Red Mafia and their Moslem terrorist allies, are incapable of developing more sophisticated applications. Much of modern Russia including former satellite countries such as Albania and Ukraine are now controlled by thousands of highly sophisticated mafia cells, that are top-heavy with engineers and Ph.D. scientists. Branches of this brutal crime cartel have long been in league with Muslim narco-terrorists in the Middle East and Asia; the Moslems may not be the “weak sister” in this unholy alliance, either. Militant Moslems have access to enormous wealth created by Arab oil, and some of the leaders of these fanatics are highly intelligent. One should remember Arabic numerals and the mathematical concept of zero were Moslem innovations. These advances took place decades ahead of anything Christian Europe was capable of doing. To translate this dismaying historical fact into the Twenty-first Century, I would point out that literally thousands and thousands of Moslems (including Arab, Turkic, Hindu, Pakistani, and Indonesian scientists and engineers) possess advance degrees in the fields of mathematics, electrical engineering, computer science, and super conductors. Vast numbers of these people were educated in the United States -

Yeah the Stinger batteries died out years ago, but Baba Tim and others, maybe you missed what seemed to be the point of the story - ISI has repaired them.
As to whether this is true or not I have no idea. But no question that if the Taliban got their hands on Stingers or Russian Strelas or Nevas, things would start going a bit differently for NATO and ISAF.

Here is an interesting fact that not many people know about:
Michael Pillsbury participated in President Reagan's decision in 1986 to order the CIA to arm the Afghan resistance with Stinger missiles. According to the UN Undersecretary General who negotiated the Soviet withdrawal from Afghanistan, "Initially, the Stinger campaign was spearheaded by Undersecretary of Defense for Policy Fred Ikle and his aggressive Coordinator for Afghan Affairs, Michael Pillsbury
… The Stinger proponents won their victory in the face of overwhelming bureaucratic resistance that persisted until the very end of the struggle." Mann wrote, "For Michael Pillsbury, the covert operations in Afghanistan represented the fulfillment of the decade-old dream of American military cooperation with China… To help him win the argument, Pillsbury made use of his China connections." George Crile stated in Charlie Wilson's War that, "Ironically, neither [Gust] Avrakotos nor [Charlie] Wilson was directly involved in the decision and claims any credit."
