Tomas Jefferson was a great believer in the fact that an education freed a person whether they be a man or a woman. What you have learned can not be taken from you. You will take your knowledge with you to your grave.
An education is an enemy of many throughout the world. An education frees the masses and makes it harder to exploit them. Educated people's eyes are open and they question the world around them.
Just think about yourself. If you had not educated yourself what would your world be like? Yes, perhapes an education has complicated your life and in many ways made it difficult, but I would venture to say you would not trade your educated life for the other life many live.
Your travels have taken you places far and wide seeking knowledge. In the process you have gained freedom.
Knowlege is like a narcotic. Once you have a taste, you must go back for more. That need remains with you for the rest of your life.
The problem with an education is it is a function of what the leaders of a country or a religion will allow. In poorer countries an education is often an after thought or only within reach of the wealthy.
An education is not just about religious values, but the world as we know it. It is about science, the arts, the languages, the history and the religions of the world.
Unfortunately those who pontificate about education forget that it may be at conflict with those who wish to maintain a group of people enslaved. It may be impossible to educate the very people who you want to free without removing those whose desire is to block the education.
The enslavers can be a government or a religion. In the case of much of the islamic world that is under the influence of the extremists of the Islamic faith, women are treated as the slaves of men. Men are treated as the slaves of the religion. Neither is really free to be educated.
What are the first institutions attacked by the extemistist? Throughout the Pakistan and Afganistan regions schools which seek to educate young ladies and women are visciously attacked and the educators are often attacked and killed.
You need to ask yourself why? The answer is the extremists fear an educated society. An educated society can see through the hypocracy of their views. An educated person can see who the extremists really are and that they are really an enemy of the very faith they say they represent.
Why! The answer lies in the fact that an educated group of women would not allow themselves to be enslaved by a barbaric group of men. The extremists fear the institutions that will free the masses they enslave.
Why was the university attacked in Paskitan even though it was an Islamic University? The answer is because it is an instrument that brings into question the views of the extremists to hold the flock enslaved.
Again, to educate is to free people. The problem is there are a lot of people out there who will ruthlessly kill the very people who naively believe that

An answer for your question, there are several ways I can see. The first is to become involved in different groups that handle this, you would be amazed at how much difference a single extra competent person can make. Another way would be to try to educate others, though in this era of apathy I'm not certain how many want to hear of it.
In defense of my culture, I at least am more interested in leaders than teenage obsessions.
