I saw your video and read your blog, as an Afghan American who lives here, my heart went out to you. I know how lonely college campuses can be. NC is not a big Afghan city but you are not too far from Virgina (AFghan capital of the East coast)or NYC. If you can get money and some time, get on a grayhound bus (or amtrak train) and you can be in Virgina in 3-4 hours, NYC maybe a 6 hour drive. Fairfax and Alexandra are good places to visit. You have a great oppertunity at Duke, great school!

Gravatar I also love to ride a bicycle. But in my country is very cold winters and it is simply impossible to ride a bicycle in winter. Otherwise I would have just went biking and not be afraid, no traffic jams.

Gravatar It is good to see you are alive and well and enjoying life. I would assume it has to be different where you are presently at in terms of the freedom you feel as well as the relative security you feel.

I am glad you have had an opportunity to visit this country on a somewhat extended basis. As bad as we sometimes think things are, I am certain they are far better than most places in the world.

I hope you leave with a better appreciation for what this country is. May be some day your country will be as free.

While I could not understand what you said, I think I somehow got the gist of what you said. Be safe when you return home and remember to fine tune those skills which have kept you alive before you return there.

Compared to many in your country you have lived in reality a blessed life. From your discription it has been a hard one, but still you have had so many opportunities that others from your country have not had. Actually you have worked hard to obtain those opportunities and we would say that is the American way, but you have been blessed with some God given gifts as well.

To be able to sit down and openly disagree with others and still be friends is not a freedom I believe exsists in Afghanistan. As I have expressed before it is the difference between a Government of the people as opposed to a Government by religion.

Once again, be safe and have a wonderful time while you are here in this country.

Gravatar Hi Nasim,
Great to see you alive and kickin' at Duke. Both Yury and I love the video. It seems like a great way to communicate to folks back in Afghanistan. Maybe you can do more clips on different subjects? Just a thought.
Take care!
Sincerely,
your friends from Berlin/Germany

Gravatar My son is in your country now, a LT in the US Army. He is hoping to make a difference in the lives of the Afghan people. We are NOT the enemy. The extremists groups in your country are.

Enjoy my country! You are LUCKY to be here!! I never take for granted that I was born in the USA. I am FREE.
