Here is what I did the last two days--went to countless meetings where all I heard was blah blah blah blah. OH, yeah, and also I heard blah blah blah blah blah. I am now teaching a CTT class with a frightened new special ed teacher so I was required to sit through a one hour video exploring the four (or was it five) ways to teach....more blah blah blah. Oh, yeah and here is the buzz word of the year (and last year)--differentiated learning. BLAH BLAH BLAH.
Rhonda - sure you don't teach in my school? I heard more blah blah blah about differentiation in the past 2 days than I've ever heard in my life.
Oh yeah - and since the DOE did away with the mentor program, I am in charge of a brand spankin' new teacher who LOOKS LIKES SHE'S 12!!!! I know the kids she's getting - she needs more than a mentor, she needs to start praying.
BTW - I didn't win the Mega Millions jackpot. I'm pissed.
Differentiated learning. Yeah we've been heqring that for two years. You'd think my APs got kickbacks from Howard Gardener for each time they used the phrase.
It seems the DoE is no longer coughing up the money for mentors, so the principal can pick any teacher.
Years ago, mentors had to be certified through after-school staff development training. Now someone with less than 2 years in the classroom is now a mentor in my school.

Not on topic, but of interest. I was contacted by the lawfirm of Stroock & Stroock & Lavan as outside counsel to the UFT. I have filed a notice of claim against Joel Klein for damages for his violation of NYS & NYC age discrimination law in denying me a transfer under the Open Market.
It is so cool to see my name as bringing a claim against the person of Joel Klein, even if, as is very likely, nothing more happens.
I'm going to copy the notice before i send it back signed and frame it and keep it on my desk in school.

I had notified the Union on the UFT web link that I had not only been denied transfer, but that 26 applications had gone absolutely unanswered. I was satrirical in my communication with them.
Last week i was contacted by a lawyer from Stroock that the UFT had hired them to begin prooceedings against Klein. The basis for these is that the new funding procedures have encouraged principals to discriminate against senior staff. I doubt a white shoe firm like Stroock is going to war just for me. They must have a file of many similar complaints.
The funny thing is the UFT on its website and in Randi's Email letter cite the great success of the open market, while at the same time bringng action against Klein for his use of it.
But like I said, to see my name in a claim of action with Klein as the defendant is an excellent way to start the year. Keep you all posted.
I obviously missed my calling in life. And I have a STFU mug especially for meetings. So far, nobody has picked up on the mug.
