She was once a union supporter until she thought it would help her political career to be on the other side.
Is her school already up and running? And, who is keeping an eye on her and these teachers on testing days?

She speaks of it as though it's up, if you follow the link at The Chalkboard.
She also makes numerous factual errors about the teacher contract, contending that teachers can't be asked to do lunch or bus duty, and that they work five hour forty minute days.

Since NYC has not seen fit to pay a competitive wage since well before they hired me, I've worked as an adjunct for CUNY for the last 16 years.
Whoa, there, John Stossel says educators are paid way way way too much and since he's on TV you know we have to automatically believe him.
As for this other lady ... Eva Moskowitz ... Eva Braun ... hmmmm ...

With a one page contract, an 8 hour and 40 minute school day, and Auntie Eva running the joint, what do you think the turnover rate for teachers will be?

Not that any of you don't already know, but John Stossel makes many, many times my salary. He's compensated thusly for railing against things like minimum wage, contending that since the poor in the US have microwaves and color TVs, they're not really poor.
AS for Auntie Eva's school, there are a lot of politics behind it, and it's entirely conceivable that those who work there are part of it. After all, if you're not on board, you're fired.

I wish that those 'progressives" who pontificate about public education would spend a few days in a typical inner city High School. They might learn that this is certainly not an easy job! There are thousands of very dedicated teachers trying to do their best. To imagine what teaching would be without any real union benefits and protection is a form a mass suicide.

I couldn't agree more. And despite what the "progressives" may think, the reason we lose so many new teachers so quickly is neither easy work nor excessive pay.

Is this a uniquely New York usage of the word "progressive"? I've never heard the word used to mean anti-union.

Eduwonk, for example, ridicules teachers for demanding fair contracts. He claims that is somehow not considering "children, kids, or students" (as though they're three distinct entities).
He complains teacher contracts are not available when they are, for the most part, available online. Though he claims not to support vouchers, he supports voucher proponents who are deeply and obviously in the pockets of far-right interests.
He claims to be a supporter of unions. He refers to himself as "progressive." I've no doubt democrat Eva sees herself the same way.

Interestingly, back when I was a NYC educator, I was asked to testify on issues of educational technology in front of a City Council commission that Ms. Moskowitz was chairing. I went with a full report about what Beacon was doing, and how we were succeeding in implementing some really wonderful innovations in educational technology.
Sadly, she was much more interested in tearing down what was going on in the Dept. of Ed, than hearing anything positive going on. The questions repeated focused around where she thought there was waste in the system. Fortunately, I wasn't in a position to comment on those issues, as what I saw from my vantage point as a teacher in the Alternative Superintendency was very positive.
It's not a suprise to me that she soon opened up a charter school.

It's not a surprise to me that her agenda was so blatant even back then. In fact, that's precisely the impression I got from the massive media coverage she got herself.
Didn't do her political career much good, though.
