Gravatar This is the old throw a blanket over the bird cage trick to make the bird think everyone has gone away.

Gravatar Good analogy.

Gravatar Many Principals accept students even when there are no seats. More students means more money. Schools that are "cozy," often have outstanding programs, additional support staff for students and a substantial amount of materials that underprivileged students would not ordinarily have.

Space is a small price for such enormous oportunities.

Gravatar Schools with no space have no tutoring programs because there is no place to run the programs. Schools with no space have no work areas for teachers to meet with students to discuss work. Schools with no space have no computers or phones easily available. Schools with no space have children arriving at 7:00 AM and others staying until 5:00 PM. There is no time for assemblies or any type of meetings for the entire student body. To me, space is a major price to pay!

Gravatar NYC Supe,

You're absolutely right, and things like that are why I get upset when people call education an industry. It's not really all about the bottom line.

POd Teacher,

It sounds like you agree with the supervisor, for once.

Good thing, because you're both right.

Gravatar My reputation would be ruined if I ever agreed with a supervisor. Best I can hope for is that the supervisor agrees with me.

Gravatar Well, then I'm sorry I ever brought it up, of course.

Gravatar nyc educator:

Let's see. First, Bloomberg gives a fellow billionare's Charter School free space in the Tweed building. Second, a wonderful school facility is being converted to housing for Artists. Finally, all those overcrowded schools and the students in them are neglected by the so-called "child first" crowd (hypocrites).

Where is the outrage by Unity and the media blitz that would expose the Kleinberg actions that shows that they do not put children first?

Gravatar I really wonder what the hell they think about all the time in that building we bought them.

Gravatar I thank NYC Educator for bringing the plight of PS 109 to your attention. We held a Will of the People Forum on Oct. 23, 2006.
Somthing happened the next day. The Mayor's office called and left a long message saying the mayor was sorry for not attending our forum. That's good. In five years of letter writing and hundreds of calls we finally got a response! Please help us keep up pressure on the mayor's office. We need kids and teachers to sign the auto petition on our Website: www.saveps109.com. We will have another Will of the People forum. We invite everone who cares about the " will of the people" not being carried out!
I will be speaking on WBAI Radio tomorrow, Oct 30, 2006 during the 8 a.m. hour, 99.5 FM.
More soon,
Gwen Goodwin Chair for The Coalition to Save PS 109.
