I have had an interactive smartboard in my room this school year and I use it often. It is fab- As well as powerpoints, I show my kids French movies, clips from YouTube and I even managed to persuade my head of department to subscribe to an interactive website. Now that I have gotten used to it, my teaching would probably be at a loss without it.
I still use my whiteboard, of course, and love that too. The kids like the mix, I think.

A smart board would be great but like you by the time they trickle down to me.....Anyway, I'm good to go with a regular white board and a large screen tv that can serve as my computer monitor. I'm used to and it does everything I need it to do.

I really needed to read this post for my laugh today. You pretty much summed up what it's like to teach school. The blackboard and eraser will probably make a big comeback about fifty years from now, but teachers will be required to sit in endless inservices before being allowed to use them.

Isn't it amazing how little we've advanced? Ms. Crabtree was writing on the blackboard back in the thirties, and I'm doing it now.

Now, give me a sentence using the word "isthmus"...
"Getting to use technology that works at my school? Well, isthmus be my lucky day."

For the last 6 years I've had a chalkboard that spans the length of one wall and has 3 sliding panels on it as well (before that I was in a portable with no bathroom that was 1/8 mile away from the school). Every year, the first time I slid a new panel out, I'd get all kind of "oohs" and "aahs" from the students.
Now they're turning my room into a science lab and the thing I'm going to miss most is that silly chalkboard.

I had a whiteboard and then they came out with smartboards but I didn't get one. The year I retired (I was special ed department chair), I found out that promethean boards would be given to every department head the next year. I wonder if I had stayed, whether that would have happened or not!
