Gravatar Is that $10 an hour per student or per teacher? Because with only 4 kids in a class, that's $40 an hour. Don't have a disagreement with your humorous assessment. Just want to clarify.

Gravatar i have an idea. How about we take that proposed 2.9 billion, and strengthen our borders. That way, we won't have to pay illegal newcomers to learn english. I appreciate, at least, that you used the term illegal, and not "undocumented." Legal immigrants, I am all for educating, and would be willing to spend much more than 200 million. But take the 2.9 billion and put it towards not just a fence, but also give the ability to the border guards to do their job as well. Give them to right to ENFORCE our laws. Pardon Ramos and Campeon, while we're at it.

Gravatar Golly, that's less than my housecleaner wages theory, which is the very reason why I decided to set up a back-to-school survey.

When will the public learn that educators actually have extensive educations and ought to be compensated fairly for it?

Gravatar Paul,

You may be right, and I did consider that. It's really not clear in the article.

And of course, with 34 kids in a class, NYC style, that's 340 bucks an hour. I'm not really expecting to cash in, in any case.

Gravatar Bottom line is in my school of some 1300 kids, there are probably 90 degreed faculty members when you factor in teachers, supervisors, guidance counselors, SBST, psychologist, etc. So that's 14.4 students per faculty member (I'm using very rough numbers here). I make way more than $10 an hour even under NYC slave wages as a veteran teacher on max. And per session work is about $40 an hour so my guess is we're talking about small group instruction type stuff before or after school.

Gravatar E-tutor the kids in India. That would cost less than $10 an hour.
