Gravatar Well, maybe the folks at Fox were slow on the uptake that day.

However, one of the commenters wasn't exactly too swift either:

LOL - I can only laugh at this story because it’s so ridiculous. A Black man participated in a Presidential debate as a candidate during slavery? LOL…ahahahaha

I'm sure we can find plenty of mistakes across the political spectrum.

Gravatar "I'm sure we can find plenty of mistakes across the political spectrum."

I'm sure you're absolutely correct. But honestly, isn't it only human that we pounce with glee on those of our opponents?

Gravatar On a serious note, folks - Doris Kearns Goodwin's recent book on Lincoln has some good stuff about Frederick Douglas and Lincoln. Douglas (Frederick that is) had a very negative opinion of Lincoln due to some very racist comments Lincoln made. But when he met him Lincoln treated him with such openess and respect and consideration, as much as he had received from any white man, Douglas changed his mind and became an ardent Lincoln advocate. Thus, the genius of Lincoln's immense humanity.

Gravatar True. Douglass even spoke at the dedication of the Lincoln Memorial (as a very old man at the time).

Gravatar If Lincoln were out there today, he would be attacked for being weak and indecisive. No matter how badly he was attacked he never struck back. Obama has taken a similar tack and has been pushed to show how "tough" he is. Lincoln is proof that toughness can take many forms.
