I'm like you in that when I host I try to include everyone who submits, unless they are just a total whack job. I've noticed however that people I have fundamental differences with do not submit when I host.

I didn't criticize you in my rant.

I wasn't referring to you, Prof.

Who's criticizing you for NOT censoring the Carnival of Education, NYC? Would it be Leo Casey and the Edwize wankers who routinely censor or delete critical comments on the UFT blog that all of our membership dues pay for? Would it be UFT bigwigs or Unity/New Action hacks who shout down and/or muscle any opposition at UFT meetings or delegate assemblies? Would it be the Unity/New Action hacks who appear on various education blogs and websites to shill for the various anti-union policies of the UFT?

If anybody is anti-union, it is the current leadership of the United Federation of Teachers and the members of the propaganda wing of the UFT over at Edwize and NYC Teacher. If you don't agree with whatever the official policies of the Unity/New Action leadership is (and currently that is collaborating with Bloomberg and Klein to systematically dismantle job protections, job seniority and job benefits for UFT rank-and-file), you're called "anti-union" and "anti-labor".

Keep up what you're doing, NYC. This is a fine blog, your hosting of the Carnival of Education is excellent, and your consistent, fair and documented criticism of the current policies of the DOE, the mayor, the chancellor, and the current Unity/New Action patronage mill that leads the UFT and collaborates w/ Kleinberg to sell out rank-and-file members is essential.

Gravatar I remember a few weeks back after hosting the carnival, Dr. Homeslice took some time off from blogging. I imagine that putting together a carnival is more work than most people are willing to do.

By the way, I would never mistake you for being anti-union. You write a mighty fine blog and make some very good points.

Gravatar I hope that this experience will provide NYC Educator with reason for him to recognize his own weaknesses, such as intolerance of differing viewpoints. The whole union would benefit from his self re-evaluation.

Gravatar I've NEVER seen the union admit a mistake.

Gravatar Maybe you need glasses?

Gravatar Maybe I do too. How about an example?

Gravatar Intolerance of differing view points??????

When Leo says: "Having taken a ‘blood oath’ that we would respond only to substantive discussions of the ‘Green Dot tenure’ issue..."

Isn't that code for:
I don't respect anyone who disagrees with my point of view?????

Edwize is not a private blog as this one. It is part of the UFT, and as a member, my points are to be respected.
Back in 05, I warned that the Open Market would kill seniority. I was correct, Unity was not.

Gravatar This guy is a troll. He just comes here, says nasty stuff and leaves. He couldn't give one example where the UFT corrected itself. They're always right, and edwize is too good to even talk to anyone who disagrees. That's what we pay for.

Gravatar Schoolgal is technically accurate when she says that Edwize and NYCEducator's blog are different because the latter is private. But as both are dedicated to unionism, which trusts in democracy, there should be the same tolerance for different arguments regardless.

Gravatar Well, I'd certainly tolerate an argument, if indeed you had one. Since you suggested a commenter needed glasses for not having seen the union admit a mistake, kindly provide an example to support your contention.

Gravatar "But as both are dedicated to unionism, which trusts in democracy."

While you're at it give an example of how the UFT trusts democracy. Like how about letting VP's be elected by divisions, removing employees of the union from the Delegate Assembly and countless other examples?

Or is Dittersdorf redhog in drag?

Gravatar I think politically nyced and myself are almost polar opposites, yet he has never censored my postings. He has only offered the opportunity for spirited discussion. And yes we do agree on many things, educationally and re the UFT, but we'd be at opposite ends re vouchers or tax credits for private schools. But my hunch is I'd never find my views disappearing the way they do on Edwize.

Gravatar The discussions here are usually interesting, but the troll is a waste of time.

Gravatar Dittersdorf must be Ron Isaac, aka redhog. This is a Unity propaganda specialist who is obviously not a teacher at present. Stop using this blog as a vehicle to blow crap all over NYCED's well thought out commentaries and interpretations of educational events both in the city and in other parts of the nation. We are paying $87 per month in union dues to a union which has done nothing but slap us in the face the past 3 years, starting with the July 1, 2005 sneak-in of a new drug plan where we paid not $10 or $15 but now $30 to $70 per prescription, with much more accompanying paperwork.....then it was losing seniority rights and working at asinine C6 jobs, many of which should be done by school aides not educators with masters' degrees. What will it be next, Mr. Unity? Losing tenure as we know it? Charterizing the entire school system? What?

Gravatar Only 23% of the teachers bothered to vote in the March election. Whose fault is it that our union's leadership gets away with what it does? Anything would be better but some people complain on blogs that the teachers who are working hard in support of their fellow teachers don't have the right haircuts or clear enough pictures to run a union. Isn't some of the blame on us?

Gravatar I don't think that being abusive is the way to go. Just being passionate is not excuse for recklessness. We all are maddened by a lot of shit that has hit us in recent years with these bandits, assassins, and CEOs at Tweed, and I am pissed as anybody. And don't identify me as someone who I am certainly not. First of all, you are wrong. Second, NYC Educator doesn't identify his name and school, and I think he's totally correct in not doing so. Thanks, buddy.
