This may turn out be a situation where teachers should vote for the opposite candidate of who Randi and the UFT leadership endorse.

Gravatar Tracking the relationship between Thompson and the UFT for over a decade, it is hard to believe that has been frayed. I still think they have big plans for each other.

My thinking on the Thompson situation is that he is really running for a future office. People in the Avella campaign say Thompson is running a somewhat shadow campaign - doing what it takes to seem credible. Makes him look like a guy willing to take on a giant, unlike Weiner (who the UFT doesn't like) who went skulking away. Next time there is a mayoral election, Thompson will have laid the groundwork and the UFT will jump in. From theirs (and Thompsons) point of view, why waste resources when you think you can't win?

Which is why a vote for Avella in the primary is a vote against Randi and crew, besides the fact he is the only one standing up on charters and mayoral control.

Gravatar Norm,
Wolfson was the one who got Weiner to walk away. Wolfson also worked with Weiner so I suspect threats were used.

Gravatar schoolgal is correct
see this article in the times about wolfson's dealings with weiner

Gravatar Vote for Tony Avella for Mayor! Think about this fact also.....he's from the outer boroughs, where reality prevails.

Gravatar Weiner could stand on his head and he won't get UFT support for mayor next time.

Gravatar His fiancée is very attractive, though. Think about the possibilities. And c'mon -- Mayor Weiner? Mayor Weiner folks!

Gravatar Ok. I'll bite. We now have official permission to call him Oscar Mayor Weiner. I'd vote for him just for that. But he has to change his name.

Gravatar Ok. I'll bite.
