Gravatar Here are some pictures of the inside of the trailer I taught in a year ago. Since nothing has been done to make any improvements, I can only guess that they are worse now.

Gravatar Typical DOE misinformation and lies. When will the news media see through this?

Of course we are assuming that the news media wants the truth which may be a false assumption.

Gravatar NYC Educator:

You just don't get it, do you? These trailers are modular in design. And they are providing a marvelous service to our students.

After all, let’s look at the state of our nation and our economy. Math and science education have been decimated. Instruction in the arts, humanities and cultural sciences are non-existent. There are no jobs left in our economy. Nothing left to aspire or hope for. So it seems to me that these trailers are acclimating our students for the future of this great nation, a prison decor with banality and despair for all.

And if in the distant future, the DOE decides to get rid of these trailers (which seems highly unlikely), never fear. These trailers can still be useful. All they have to do is place partitions within each these trailers and and ship them off to Rikers Island where they can then be used for prisoner detention cells.

Now that’s what I call cost efficiency.

Gravatar An elementary school near me (also in Queens) that has trailers--but if the kids need to go to lunch, they have to go inside the main building. During inclement weather, it is so horrible to cross the yard to the doorway. These kids also have to cross the yard to get to ELL and Resource Room classes. There is no security in the back of the school either.

These trailers were supposed to be "temporary". Not only are these trailers getting old and run down, they take up valuable play space for outdoor sports. This school does not have a gym, and the stage of the auditorium cannot bring in special performances like dance and dramatic productions because a large part of the stage as been turned into classroom and storage space.

I find it sad that Klein and Bloomberg can find fault with public education and yet find a reporter to do a positive spin on these conditions.

Gravatar Spin is what they do best.

Gravatar Well, er, those trailers seem cheerful enough on the outside (nice paint and all). What more do you want?

Gravatar Actually, you can't really see much detail in that photo. I'd venture to say if you did, you might revise your opinion on how cheerful they look.

Gravatar Can't they be cleaned up, painted and used at Riker,s?

Gravatar They certainly look like they belong there.

Gravatar They would never subject prisoners to the conditions these trailers are in. Human Rights activists would be up in arms.

Gravatar Don't forget the hip boots needed to get in and out whenever it rains.
