You'd think they'd have it ready by now with all the practice they've had.

Gravatar Bloomberg was too busy readying his aborted Bloomberg For President campaign and bribing the new governor to support his traffic plan to fabricate the stats for the new study. But rest assured, the DOE will have them soon enough and even if they don't, the Post and Daily News editorial writers will tout whatever Bloomberg says as gospel truth without the need for proof. In that way, Bloomberg gets the kind of press McCain does - almost always positive, almost always suck-upy.

Gravatar They'll be back to business before you know it.

Gravatar I'm surprised that the DOE didn't blame the teachers for the student movement out of the schools. They accuse us of everything else.

Gravatar I read this study and the linked article. While it points out some disturbing trends, it is a longitudinal study of kids beginning in 3rd grade and who should've completed 8th grade by June 2003. So you can't really attribute this particular set of problems to the current Mayor.

Gravatar I only read this post and the article, and you may be right. I think the predicted mayoral triumph was tongue in cheek, though.

I have a question: Why is Saturday Night Live repeating a show that aired two weeks ago?

Gravatar Unfortunately, much of American media is now just a huge propaganda machine for neocons, not delivering informative news or information. Watch BBC International for the actual news. If you speak Spanish, those channels are also still reporting news. I do not care to hear another word about any sleazy politicians' romps with prostitutes, girlfriends, or boyfriends. It's just not news.

Gravatar While this study may pre-date Bloomberg, it does not pre-date his choice of policies and curriculums that could have turned these stats around.

Gravatar Unfortunately, much of American media is now just a huge propaganda machine for neocons...

Ummm, Client 9? The New York Times, The Washington Post, The LA Times, and nearly every other large city newspaper. CNN, NBC, ABC, CBS, and MSNBC. NPR.

I'm not sure what propaganda machine for neocons you're referring to. Fox News, talk radio, and the Wall Street Journal would qualify, I suppose, but they are in the minority (when the entirety of media are aggregated, that is).

For the record, it took Spitzer's romps with prostitutes for his shenanigans as NY's AG and Governor to come to light in the mainstream media. They weren't reporting on it until then.

Gravatar Maybe you haven't been watching the news lately, but now it's like watching a "Politicians Gone Wild" video while the middle class continues to struggle and lose ground. I guess I shouldn't have made such a blanket statement; MSNBC still appears to try to report news, and they do have the conscience of the Bush admininstration, Keith Olberman. In terms of neocon leanings, it all has to do with corporate control of the media. I've seen a marked deterioration of news reporting withing the past few years as the media shrinks our world for us and isolates us from the rest of the world, which mirrors our administration's policies. Didn't mean to offend your sense of journalism, but I am very old school and remember reading news in the news papers and seeing news on the news. The slugfest that is the Democratic presidential campaign is bordering on a soap opera, obssessing upon and magnifying each candidate's moves instead of keeping the focus on issues that affect most voters. And what about the corruption and ineptitude of BloomKlein? I see a huge manipulation of the media...and tiptoeing around issues such as mayoral control of education. I've barely seen a word about it on the 3 main networks' nightly local news programs. The media, not religion, is the opiate of the people.
