Gravatar You say: Why should underperforming schools get more funds when the Chancellor can simply close them and open new ones? Who cares if kids have to get on a train or bus at 4 AM because their neighborhood school is now the Academy of the Dark Arts?

My much smaller city's administration has the same idea now. They'll open two new schools aimed to "help" these underperforming kids and mess around and move two of their higher performing programs. BUT, in a boldly different move, instead of closing OR really trying to change their 4-5 vastly underperforming schools? Those they are just going to let wither away until there are so few students that ... they've died on their own. Great plan, eh? It only writes off a couple thousand kids for several years. Then, they assure us, everything will be great.

Gravatar Maybe this is the beginning of the end of the Kleinberg "children last program".

I can't wait for 2010 when they will be gone.
