Those critical stories were few and far between. Winerip is long gone and Freedman now covers stories in Antarctica. Actually, I thought Bloomberg already owned the Times. I bet many reporters who cover ed think about things like future careers when they are faced with writing critical stories.

You said it, Norm. Your Newsweek link explained it all. Remember all those puffs disguised as the "Public Lives" column? (they even had one on the infamous James Liebman). This past year, the Times did more damage to the cause of NYC school children than any other news organization with its editorials, Joe Klein's press releases disguised as news, op-eds(Andy Rotherham), unpublished letters(which happen to criticize our imports from the old country) and giving short shrift to people like Diane Ravitch. Don't forget the other numerous ways in which they tried to play extrmely nice with Mike. They were trying to keep him in the news pages almost daily when his presidential non-campaign was going on.

I have to agree that I see more of a pro than anti-Bloomberg bias in the Times. I suppose is Bloomie manages to buy the paper it will just get worse.

I apologize, NYC educator. It was a link in your comment to a Daily News story which linked to a Newsweek article on Rupert Murdoch.

Oh no, wheresoever will I get my news from? Ha, no seriously, as much as we come down on the NYTimes for their flubs, they're no Post, or what's going to be the Daily News, or the Wall St. Journal. At least there were some writers who had a liberal lean that actually made it to the front cover. The same can't be said for the other papers. With that said, if Bloomberg decides to buy the paper out, we're in trouble as far as our news sources are concerned.

If we look at the number of things exposed in the tabloids vs. the Times, they have actually done more in terms of reporting - juts skip the editorials. And Eliz. Green in the conservative NY Sun has done the most to be critical of BloomKlein. The Sun has printed other people who are Klein critics like Andy Wolf and Sol Ster.
