My admin has been using their services (having translators in the building) for every PTC meeting and/or school function. When we give out notices from the DoE they are in so many languages and I always give them out to those who parents don't speak or read English.

Gravatar This is good. Really good.

Gravatar Damn- Lets get to the real right? Stop tip-toeing on irrelevance.

Gravatar Seems easy to me. Surely, the Chinese have a word or phrase for "meaningless babble."

Gravatar What a classic post. Believe it or not, I got my start in education teaching in one of those ubiquitous trailors in the back of the school.

When I told friends and family what I did, they thought I was joking. I was aghast at those conditions then, and I still am. You're right, something has to be done.

Gravatar I taught bilingual kindergarten in a trailer with no bathroom my first year. Then the early childhood people got wind of it so I had to be moved back into the building. And guess what? No one moved into the traier and it was eventually removed from the schoolyard because it was in such bad shape. All the parents of my students were low income and about half were non English speakers.

Gravatar In my school even the good kids are in trailers. I teach AP calculus in one of them. Here are some picutres in case you doubt the truth of the conditions there.

Gravatar All the more reason for parents to get the ball rolling. Great pix.
