Interesting that we have to find out from an LA paper that our leader is looking into "partnerships" with our mayor. I wonder who her campagin advisors are? Could Hillary be telling her how to play the Republican game so she will be a "shoe in" at the senate confirmation for Ed. Secty? Don't be surprised if she gets a bear hug from Cheney.
I wonder whether Hillary would really consider her. It seems likely she'd stab Ms. Weingarten in the back in a New York minute. Yet with the approval of folks like Rod Paige, and the clearly anti-union writer of that editorial, perhaps there is actually a reason why she's been negotiating awful contracts that fail to meet cost of living. Perhaps there's a reason she's been approving reorganizations that blatantly hurt working teachers, and single-handedly killing demonstrations against this mayor and his policies.
Randi's goal is to be the top labor leader in the nation - the future John Sweeney. First AFT president. Then a merger with the NEA and head of the entire US teachers and use that to pyramid to the AFL-CIO. Just think, the entire labor movement in the US co-opted with RW's brand of workign with management. And if Bloomberg is president and Klein goes to Washintgon as the more likely Secty of Education, the BloomWeinKlein team will take the show on the road.
I really think the federal position Randi is gunning for is SecLabor. She is a trained labor lawyer, and has little direct educational experience of credit. But as aleader of a white collar union which has bona fides like Al Shanker in its past, Randi would be a Sec Labor right out of central casting.
She could even claim allies in the corporate world and present herself as a bridge between labor and business. If Hillary wins my bet for Randi is on Dept of Labor.
Maybe she can do less direct harm to city teachers in DC. Maybe all those givebacks were just her ticket out. But she's probably got someone even worse to take her place.

Hillary and Randi do have a close relationship. Randi has been invited to the Clinton White House many times and even got to sleep over.
Randi used to boast about these trips at our Princeton New Chapter Leader meetings.
And on those trips to the White House, did Randi make the acquaintance of deputy White House Counsel Joel Klein?
Good question. But actually, Ms. Weingarten's now getting "attaboys" from Rod Paige. I wonder how her fact-finding trip with anti-tenure, anti-seniority Green Dot boss Steve Barr is coming along. Doubtless she can learn a lot from someone like that, and ol' JK will be more than happy to introduce such innovations.
Because they're all on the same Paige(pardon the pun). Do you realy think there's much difference in the world view of a Clinton or a Bush? Both families owe their fortune to mega institutions> In GWB's case it's large nouveau corps like WalMart and Halliburton. In Clinton's it's Gates, Buffet, public employee unions. What's in common? A dimniution of individual liberty on the grounds that "we" know what's best for you. Educatin example; Marc Tucker and Lucy Caulkins.
