I feel for the teachers plight. Years ago, some teacher took a class on a trip only the administration forgot to get coverage for the class left behind. Since the kids were just wandering the hall, I brought them into my room. An administrator walked by, saw them doing nothing and wrote me up. When I explained who they were and why they were there, instead of commending me he told me it was not my business to take them in. So much for doing the right thing for schools.

That stinks that you guys have such a combative relationship with the custodians. It's bad enough to have to be under siege from the incompetents on high, fighting each other is just pointless.

And as a bonus, the kids got a lesson in creative problem solving and working around a dysfunctional system.

You really have doors that look like that in your schools? No wonder they don't work well!

This is truly a creative solution to the problem. Too bad that our schools have so many rules, often disconnected from reality and from the needs of us teachers.

Of course, the idea that the custodians could be fired for NOT doing their jobs is ....??????????
