Just think of the timing...the mayor did this right before the Superbowl, Super Tuesday and the Superbowl parade (I am a Giants fan, but they play in NJ--which reaps the tax benefits...why was the parade in NY???)

The news didn't really pick up on this much and the mayor is getting away with murder...or at least the murder of public education.

Bloomie's cavalier attitude about the cuts is totally disgraceful. We are not dealing with commodities here. Education provides much needed services and now in the middle of the school year to be forced to cut after-school programs also puts a burden on the parents (let alone the extra help students receive in order to improve).


Some principals are totally screwed because they already spent their reward money before the doomsday email.

Yet, Klein has wasted hundreds of millions of dollars on new computer systems, testing programs, a chef, a English-based review company and the ever so popular Alvarez & Marsal to screw up the bus schedule.

This is from a man who would like to be president but couldn't even muster 2,000 hits on a pro-Bloomie blog. He had no problem sacrificing children to meet his agenda. And Klein, who controls the piggy bank can waste it on whatever he wants. Yet, being under the control of the mayor, also has no qualms about firing teachers and removing special programs in the middle of the school year. An independent chancellor would be able to stand up to the mayor.

And, from what I have been reading, the cuts will be deeper this September.

Here's what I don't get. Why is it legal for Bloomie to cut the schools' budget right after we received increased funding from CFE? Isn't this a violation of the spirit of that ruling? If NYC kids were being cheated before, how can funds fairly be cut now?

The UFT should be screaming bloody murder. What principal in his or her right mind would hire a senior teacher or an ATR with such drastic cuts looming?
