Gravatar A few years ago I was a condom distributor in my school. I told the kids while I didn't think teens should have sex, if they were going to have sex, they should be safe. I would be happy to supply them with condoms, confidentially. Well, these kids didn't want confidentiality. They used to line up at the end of the class and wait for them. Things sure have changed since I was a teenager.

Gravatar Wow. My best friend since middle school was on birth control and I didn't find out until sophomore or junior year of high school.

On the other hand, it's good to know the student is using bc -- sex ed at my school involved one day of "condoms don't work, wait until marriage to have sex" and one day of "look at all these large, full-color STD slides!"

Gravatar Well at least they know what birth control pills are, and use them. In one of my last sex ed classes, my girl students explained to me that if you smoked, you couldn't get pregnant. The worst part is that when I tried to deny this, they insisted strongly that they just KNEW that if you smoked the cigarette and the filter, then you couldn't get pregnant.
What worries me the most is that they're both smokers...

Gravatar I had a girl do that once too. I was absolutely astonished.

She still got pregnant, by the way.

Gravatar Oh, yeah. A couple of years a older male 8th grader was playing with something in class. I asked him to give it to me, and it turned out to be a packaged condom. I kind of felt bad taking it away from him, but I was obligated to tell him that it was inappropriate for school.

As a compromise, I turned the condom to the school psychologist who in turn returned it after a little chat.

Gravatar On the first day of school this fall, I realized pretty quickly that one of my sophomores was pregnant. Then she smiled at me when I called her name for the roll, and I realized she still has BRACES. Holy crap. She's 15.

Given that, I'd be glad to know a kid was on the pill (although I wouldn't want to see it during class, either).

Gravatar Our science consulting teacher taught H.S. science for years and was astounded how many kids in her biology classes - even advanced biology - didn't get the whole conception thing. They'd rather believe rumors from their friends than solid science and health information.
