As long as any agreement has nothing to do with dues collection, Randi seems in favor of it.
I don't see her fighting very hard for the ATR's, but she is certainly happy to receive THEIR dues.

My answer NYC is to look at what Rhee in DC has done. Unilaterally impose what she wants and ignore the union. With the UFT so public relations conscious and trying to give the impression it still has power, such a move by BloomKlein would leave a lot of egg on their faces.
And this plan is precisely what Klein could have done unilaterally. With no belly for a fight, Randi makes a deal - maybe she gets a crumb from Klein for her cooperation which she can brag about - see - we saved this or that.
Klein is perfectly happy to go along - publicly - he wants a UFT leadership like Randi - a militant union would have thrown many monkey wrenches into his plans. But big mouth Chris Cerf can't seem to resist telling it like it is - this is only the first step in making the teacher data public so parents can see just how well teachers doing on test prep.
See the same concept at work on parking permit losses where the UFT tries to sell the loss of of 80% of the permits as a win. And just watch this one explode - they postponed the implementation for a few weeks and already reports of outrage and total disruption of many people - there's nothing like spending your day teaching while worrying about whether you got a ticket or if you will still have a battery when you get back to your car. Many teachers will now have to start paying for parking.

NYC Ed,
You left out the statement Randi made in the NYTimes regarding how teachers feel about this rating system:
"Many of you have told us how useful it would be to better understand how your efforts are influencing student progress."
I think this is total BS on Randi's part. Teachers have always had assessment tools, and I don't know of one teacher who would have agreed to this measure.
Randi is a liar!!!!!!!!!

Pissed Off Teacher has a post about contacting your city council member and telling them not to support Bloomberg's grab for power.

Comment from Schoolgal on Edwize:
Once again the UFT is applauding the most despicable agreement reached since the ATR agreement and the rest of the '05 contract.
To even imply that teachers want this is an outright lie. We have had assessment tools for as long as I remember. To see it as a tool to help enhance teaching is so below the belt. But then again you praised the Open Market and then never posted the statistics again.
Randi's statement to the NY Times implying that many teachers have wanted such a tool is an outright lie.
Why is it that when interviewing for a new position, the principal can ask to see this report??? Isn't that so it can be used as part of the hiring evaluation. Well mark my words, the DoE under a Bloomberg 3rd term will find a way to use it as a firing tool the way they are doing now with ATRs.
It's amazing how the UFT under this leadership either doesn't get it, or is getting something even bigger under the table.

I couldn't agree with you more on Randi and her failure to challenge the DOE on behalf of the teacher.
I would also add the already ignored "rubber room" agreement she worked out with the DOE that has resulted in a one-sided enforcement of the agreement by the DOE.
