I have really enjoyed all of your posts, but the personal stories are always my favorites. This one deserves special recognition as the best of the best. Thank you for sharing it.

America has this rediculous hang-up about bi and multi-lingualism. They think you have to be a genius to know more than one language and that the first should be perfected before others are attempted. Total hogwash. Israel, unfortunately, has adopted this American mistake, so now, like in the USA, children, grandchildren etc of multilingual people suddenly can't learn additional languages.
For years I was paralyzed in fear of speaking Hebrew with mistakes instead of just communicating and learning from it.

Wonderful story. This is one of the reasons why I work with ELLs, and why I love my homeroom. Given the option of working with gifted children, and ELLs, I'd take the latter, simply because of stories like this.
