Having lived in New Mexico, my vote goes for Bill Richardson. As far as I know, he's a man of integrity.

I like him too. Hopefully he can come from behind. He's someone I don't thing the GOP can beat.
By the way, I saw you in the Daily News again today.

Uh, I hate to tell you this, but you don't have Republicans in NY--just Democrats who call themselves Republicans.

Outside of Edwards' "College for All" plan, I haven't heard much from the others about education yet.

Prof,
I have an ongoing argument with XD about whether Mayor Mike is a Republican or Democrat. I maintain his strong anti-labor record makes him a Republican, while he calls him a "RINO," or Republican in name only.
But I'm highly encouraged by the fact that neither side wishes to claim him.
While I'm sure he did a lot of things to earn a relatively liberal tag from you folks, Governor Pataki went to Florida to plead GW's side. He also vetoed pro-labor modifications to the Taylor Law, and a bill for teachers with 25 years experience to retire at 55. That's how he thanked the UFT for its support.
Interestingly, these bills haven't come before Governor Spitzer. If they do, it's entirely conceivable I may soon claim there are no Democrats in NY, just Republicans calling themselves as such.

What about us enlightened Republican teachers. Or is that an oxymoron?
Seriously, though: John Edwards worked for a hedge fund that engaged in subprime lending. For the record, I believe that subprime lenders, on the whole, perform a valuable and necessary service...current crises notwithstanding. What's hilarious is the Breck Girl's claim that he was "unaware" of this. Now didn't he say that he took the job to learn more about the relationship between markets and poverty?
So...is Edwards a liar or an idiot? I'll go with all of the above.

Actually, I remember something about Hillary turning 10 grand into a million a few years back, too.
OK, NYC Math Guy, who do you like? And who's best for teachers, selfish bastards that we are?

Ok, dear friend, we are already knew this I suspect, but we are on the opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to these matters. We won't hold that against each other though, will we?
I honestly feel it way too early to get cozy with any of these politicians running for president. There is still plenty of opportunty for plenty of mistakes to be made by members of either party, and I'm just sittin' back ready for the summer show to begin.
As far as who is a best fit for teachers......you don't really think any of them really care about us, do you? They all say what we want to hear to get their vote.
I say be more alert to who is running for the House of Reps in your neck of the woods since they control the money that is taken from each one of us at the point of gun so to speak. I'm more worried about that guy or gal.

NYCE,
I think it was 1 grand into 100K, but why quibble.
I haven't picked a horse in my race yet. I'm with elementaryhistory above: It's just too damn early. I've read some of Fred Thompson's (many) columns at Townhall.com, and he has piqued my interest. I've liked Rudy since he helped revitalize NYC. Romney seems okay, but I know rather little about him at this point. I don't care for McCain at all (see: unconstitutional campaign finance reform and unfathomable "deal" on federal court nominees), but if he ends up being the nominee, I'll hold my nose on election day '08.
As for who's best for teachers: I don't know, and I will not be voting for president on that issue.

I probably see Hillary the way you see McCain. But Rudy makes me puke.
I think many on your side feel the same, albeit for different reasons. A lot of pundits are saying now that Romney will end up being the guy to beat.
You're both right that it's early, and probably too early to handicap anyone. And I'll admit I love Fred on Law and Order, at least.

*heh* I'm voting for neither party.
I like the Libertarians... Nothing like a party which believes that the government SHOULDN'T be telling us how or what to teach!

NYCE,
Thompson is a great actor, no? I remember his turn as Winona Ryder's dad in Reality Bites -- great stuff.

Living in Iowa, we are inundated early on with all of candidates, plus have the opportunity to see them up close and personal like. Back in '04, my husband caucused for Edwards- my girls have seen him 2 or 3 times, once with John BonJovi, who, by the way, is WAY hotter than John Kerry. Both have the hair thing going on, though.
But I digress. Recently we had the opportunit to attend a barbeque where Joe Biden made an appearance- I do like his forthrightness, but he likes to hear himself talk and must really like the taste of his own feet.
I miss Bill, but I firmly believe we need some new blood in the Casa Blanca. I am not so much for Hillary.
Right now I am very much leaning towards Obama. When I've seen him speak and when I listen to what he says, I'm hopeful for our future. What a change from the awful feeling in my gut I've felt for the past 7 years. Not to mention the perpetual pain I feel in the middle of my forehead from slapping it with the heel of my hand all the time, simultaneously screaming "WHAT a moron!"
Not that I even consider him viable in the least, but Mitt Romney? Gives me the complete and utter creeps. Creeps, I tell you.

Well, Mitt is not my first choice either. How can you name your son after a baseball glove anyway?
It must be quite a thrill to see all the candidates up close, and so frequently.

Hmmm, I don't see unionism as having anything to do with Democrat v. Republican, so what stances Bloomberg has taken on that particular set of issues doesn't really affect his RINO status. You'll probably be happy to know that I'm fairly cynical about 08, unless Fred does run. He's the only candidate who can generate the enthusiasm (he already is) to get people to the polls.
But whoever runs, I'll be voting against the socialist candidate, whichever one the Democrats run. No socialist healthcare, no expanded entitlement programs, no stealing more money from taxpayers. I wholly approve of people doing good, provided that they do it with their own money, and not by stealing it from others.

I'm actually very amused that no one who's passionate about politics wants to take credit for our fearless leader.
Wouldn't ya say, though, that dems support unions more than the GOP? I mean, you just called 'em socialists, and aren't socialists supposed to support the workers? Or at least pretend to?
