But come on now- 'coerced'? Who knows how it really went down.
There were principals many, many years ago in D15 and 4 who did "coerce" their teachers to work on political campagins as well as make decorations for personal parties. My admin is able to call lunchtime meetings because no one wants to stand together as a whole to stand up against this practice.

At the university, all a department (or chairman or dean) has to do is call it "service," and you do it or else.
RWP: You're right on about principals and politics. In D10 in the Bronx several Prin made teachers campaign for that Bronx county leader who got into the PVB mess that led to Manes' suicide. All of that stuff took place while Koch railed that teachers were partt time workers while his buddies were stealing the city's empty treasury.
