His new construction trades high school in Ozone Park is in a building that produced torpedoes in WWII. In the summer of '1985 it had a fire and the surrounding six blocks were evacuated because the site was full of cyanide. The Board of Health told me to junk the best tomato crop I ever had because they might retain some particles, even though I was four blocks away.
I wonder if the UFT knows the history of that building?
I wonder if my students who will be attending Construction Trades in the fall (at least 20 of them) know the history of that building.
