This is also why blogs like these are important. We're seeing a trend where people are turning away from the local media in favor of the blogs so they can get the "real deal." I don't see that new school in Harlem being the magic solution nor do I think NYC trying to change their ways until we get a real chancellor / mayor combo.

I'd like to know what's happening to those schools that were exempt from admitting ELLs and special ed students for the first two years. For many of those schools, the two years are up. Are they changing their admissions policies?
It is chilling to see more new schools crop up with strange names like "Collaborative High School for Career, New Media, and Inquiry" (a made-up name, but typical). The mission statements tend to make even less sense than the names, if that is possible.

Just heard a report that Bloomberg wants to buy the NY Times and take it private. Based on ed coverage alone, he can say 'been there, done that.'

Thank you for calling out Moskowitz. She continues to act like she has all of the answers-- when she doesn't. Ask her about teacher satisfaction at her school? Oops, guess we are not supposed to talk about that.
The lady had almost no experience working with school age children prior to leading Harlem Success. But she did need a job after being term-limited out -- so she came back to feed at the trough that she so often disdains.

The press misses a lot. Jose is right and we're lucky that other points of view get out. I too hope the next mayor chancellor combo really works to make things better for all kids.

Reporters answer to the owners of the papers, the owners of the papers are pro-Bloomberg/Klein/Big Business. These latter parties will never criticize each other because they no longer feel the need to serve the community fairly. They will simply continue to serve their own interests. Reporters know full well what's going. But, they, like all of us, need jobs, too.

And imagine if Mayor Bloomberg buys the Times:

It's not a joke at all. Can you imagine a New York where Murdoch controls the Post and Bloomberg controls the Times? Zuckerman at the News already love Bloomberg. Where would New Yorkers go for real news? The BBC? They don't really cover New York. Blogs are good but they don't have the circulation these papers do and there are still relatively few people who read them.

It's like living in the pretend world. We have a charter public school in our area limited to a small population of lucky students. It looks and feels like a private school. Students gained admittance through a lottery system. All public schools are not the same, but expectations are the same.
