Gravatar It's funny how the accountability in the school system always seems to reside just below Klein's level and certainly never gets anywhere near Moneybags either.

It's not funny at all, if you ask me, but of course that is their MO. And there's a new slew of TV commercials urging that the "reforms" continue. I wonder who's paying for them.

Gravatar Not all of the underreporting is Klein's fault. The schools themselves contribute a lot here -- in my experience many witnesses are too afraid for their job or too overburdened to report all incidents.

An administrator explained to me last year that schools underreport because enforcing the city discipline code is "hard." And she's correct, which doesn't make it right: At a school with regular violent incidents you're obligated to submit witness statements from all parties in a certain order (based on the code on the official incident report form) via fax within 24 hours. When you factor in who doesn't want to "snitch," which parties are unsure they're obligated to submit statements, which kids who can't finish their English homework because they're not sure how to spell something on their statement, it's a lot of grunt work for the compiler.

And harder to get to what crime actually occurred in the paper-pushing.

Gravatar Agreed with NYCEd. Bloomie will never hold one of his own acccountable. Like Scopetta and the FDNY, and, last Summer, the Pres of Con Ed. If your the kind of guy Bloomie lunches with or someone he has directly chosen you could be the proven Lindbergh kidnapper or the real Sasha, he Soviet CIA mole, and you'd be protected from any public criticism. The blame will be assigned where it belongs, on the grunts.
