If you're looking for a fascinating read, try Kaplan's The Nothing that Is: A Natural History of Zero. It's a history of how the concept of zero developed, and it's excellently written.
And you don't have to be a math geek to enjoy it, either. Anybody interested in history or philosophy would snarf down this book.

Seife's Zero: The Biography of a Dangerous Idea is a little more basic, but particularly for those with less math aptitude, it makes a great read. Definitely a big fan of Kaplan's work too, though.
