I keep reading your posts about the overcrowding of NYC schools and I wonder: What's the solution? Yeah, I know: Build more schools. But obviously you have a mayor who is loathe to solve the problem. So now what? Do you just keep pointing out the problem and complaining about it? Or is there something that you and your fellow city-dwellers can do? (How about deposing hizzoner, for instance?)

To respond to California Teacher Guy's post about overcrowding: Your readers might be interested in the fact that next week, Cathy Nolan and Rory Lancman, two Assemblymembers from Queens, are introducing legislation that would require smaller classes in all grades in NYC schools -- using a minimum of 25% of the extra state funding we are to receive over the next four years.
The bill also would require the capital plan be amended to actually create the space and build the schools to accomplish this.
We need everyone's support to pass this bill -- which the Mayor is likely to oppose w/ every possible means. Stay tuned.

luckily the mayor is done after this term. NYC has term limits. We can only hope the next mayor does better. I didn't vote for him and urged everyone to do the same. Unfortunately, the Democratic candidate was not very good either.
Hopefully, the word about Bloomberg will get out so if he tries to run for Presidentone day, his efforts will be unsuccessful.

It can't be long now before Britney's insipidity saturates. You can only become more insipid so long, and she's always been close to the saturation point.

That's funny, the cluster of teachers in my corner of the school keep asking if Anna is still dead everytime they see I'm watching the news.
And it stinks that Britney can shave her head and still look good. I couldn't do that.
In most major cities or heavily populated counties, schools are over crowded, it's sad that we send so much money over seas to help poor countries while our school systems are slowing failing horribly.

We have done more than complained about the problem of overcrowding in our schools. We have tried and had approved ballot initiatives but they are always shot down by our Mayor. Lets hope that the two assembly members from Queens are heard.

There was a news story recently how we are the only country in the world that does not provide sick leave for all workers. People like health-care workers and food preparers, who should stay home when they are sick because they could spread infection easily, must work through coughs and flus in order to support their families.
Is it any wonder that this country does nothing in terms of providing lower-class sizes and instead gives more tests and mandates and claims this as progress?

Not with my tax money -- but you're perfectly free to spend yours.

Sabrina: I don't think I've ever seen a female with a shaved head that looked good, and this includes Ms. Spears who shouldn't have stopped at *just* cutting off her hair. The neck isn't too far away....

It't amazing that people who work for poverty wages such as the health-care workers who serve our sick and elderly are not entitled to sick days. Yet the agemcies that employ them charge medicare and medicaid
as well as private clients enough to line their pockets nicely and live the high life. So our tax dollars are going for homes and other luxeries of the owners of these agencies.
