I agree--respect is the key. I know that principals and administrators are powerless when it comes to our salaries, but they are not powerless in the way they speak to us. For example, my C-6 assignment gives me 5 classes in a row. I can't grieve because one of the classes is a college class that the school doesn't pay me for (they do get lots of benefits from it, though). What would have been the harm of giving me the assignment on one of my other free periods?

Remember the argument they always gave in Catch 22--
"But it's never been done that way!"

what's sad is that you actually needed a second job in the first place.

Hey, update on my school having all the kids in the school in intervention during the middle of the day: we got the principal cited by the union, so they should be back on the straight and narrow as of next week.
Of course, with the state taking so long to release test scores, the woman in charge of deciding who gets intervention and who doesn't is really in a crunch now.
But it's still another small unheralded victory for the union movement.
