I read your post about pain management. After having a total maxillectomy 7 months ago, I'm here to tell you that when my surgeon came to visit me a few days after the opperation and started yelling at nurses because I was "over-medicated" I was too stoned to disagree with him. But I didn't feel any pain. Then a week after the surgery, a doc came in and ripped 12 staples out of my neck/delt area to release the wire that was checking bloodflow to the transplanted tissue. That was the most pain I have ever felt. Even more than the trigeminal neuralgia that caused me to seek a doctor in the first place. So I think meds are a good thing!
