Your blog is so educational, even when it makes me squirm. I'm not in the medical profession, but I like to be informed. Tangentially related to the alimentary issue, my best girlfriend (age 39) is in the ICU right now because somebody managed to perforate her upper intestine while they were removing her lower intestine. They didn't discover this until she was feverish several days later. When they went back in and found the pinhole, they also discovered a twist in the gut. Now she's on a respirator being pumped full of antibiotics and sporting a temporary colostomy (sp). Ugh.
