I recall in residency there was a study published from our trauma center which showed a positive correlation between the number of tattoos and the Apache Injury Score for trauma patients. Maybe just as useless as the above study, but at least smile-worthy.
I also recall a study which demonstrated using the all-knowing Visual Analog Scale (VAS) for pain that ... being on a backboard hurts.
Seriously.
What a waste of time and effort.

I agree, but have a tale to tell, about tattoos.
A Marine was impelled through a glass door (not a window, a door, with the nice thick glass) and sustained an 18 inch or so lac through a terrific lac on his arm. It was a big, gaping thing, and would have been a conundrum to approximate...were it not for the tattoo.
A thing of beauty it was, and its prior placement gave me a perfect A->B placement for roughly one zillion sutures. I was in Okinawa, it was 0100, and I had nothing better to do. A very satisfying closure.
So, fun with tats.

Hmmmmm,
Maybe I really do need to get my residents to complete the "Tooth:Tattoo Ratio" study....
Tattoo to tooth ratio is directly proportional to ETOH intake and inversely proportional to good sense...
