I find the whole controversy quite amusing. I do however absolutely believe that men should start leaping about in loincloths and tunics. The world would be a little lighter and more entertaining!! Thanks once again for sharing your view!

Add to the picture of Athenian prejudices against women that a prevailing view among them (at least of the nouveaux riches variety) was that women were unspiritual and not suited for "love" with men.
The other point to consider is that pederasty was essentially institutionalized abuse, as a form of indoctrination into Athenian adult male life.
These things seemed to pertain above all to a certain class of Athenians at a certain period beginning in the early 5th century, corresponding to a rise in Athenian wealth and social diversity.
Claims that homosexuality was accepted in Greece are simply unhistorical propaganda points by activists--distorting the truth is one of their strengths.
