I disagree with your assessment of the author of the article. As the journalist pointed out earlier, Kurdish leaders wished for an opportunity to place Suddam on trial and convict him of genocide against their people. With his execution, such a trial cannot occur, and hence to them justice is not served. He was not executed for all his atrocities, but simply the ones he was convicted of (namely, Dujail massacre in '82). So is it truly justice served when not given the opportunity to serve it? To the Kurds, of course not.

Gravatar That's your take and I disagree since we have history of such from Reuters.

Gravatar Exactly Mark!...thanks for lettin me know bout the url problem..I hope its fixed.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Gravatar Correct me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that those trials will continue...only...they now won't have Saddam disrupting the proceedings.

The different factions of Islam in Iraq are just repositioning themselves to do what they've always done; kill each other. Instead of a United Iraq delivering Saddam his sentence, it was Maliki's Shiites at Camp Justice, a place where many shiites including some of the witnesses had endured torture from Saddam's regime in that very building.

Still, it would have been nice if it didn't appear like some type of gang hit with guys wearing leather jackets yelling about Moqtada Al Sadr, who kept Saddam up all night as they were taunting him with the hanging rope.

Another thing which struck me oddly is-this wasn't a typical middle eastern hanging which is a long agonizing strangulation.

Gravatar Cao,
I think your right about the trials proceeding. Yes, it would have bee nice if it looked more orderly and civilized. I'm not sure how you can do that very much, while also protecting the identity of the guards and hangmen. As it was, one face was digitally blurred IIRC. Hopefully an unaltered image doesnt get out and make this man a target.

I wish Iraqis would unite, seems to me killing Sadr would help and getting Iran and Syria out of there would go a long way as well.
