I've been tagged! I'll do it tomorrow, want to leave my yay Obama post up for today.
I'm 42 and still have people ask if they can talk to my mom or dad when they call (ok, now I'm on the do-not-call list but back in the day...) and I happily told them "they're not here right now..." I know what it's like at least a little bit to have people assume the wrong thing from your voice.
I've talked to you on the phone and I thought you were very manly.

I would LOVE to see you dressed as a little girl. I'm sure the photos were adorable. And for what it's worth, I never noticed you had less than a manly voice. Your masculine build would way make up for that anyway.
Cool about being a distant relative of a war hero. I didn't know that. Must be on the "other" side. You're also a not-so-distant relative of not one but TWO game show contestants, too, don't forget!!!

Kim & Jeante - Geeze, com'on now, you're makin' me blush here! Thanks. I know my voice isn't *that* girly in person-to-person conversation, but I do know it does lose some resonance over the phone, so I can sort of understand that whole thing. But whatever...thanks again.

Masters of the Universe puffy sticker cereal prize illustrator!!??!?! You are famous! I loved those stickers! Oh, wait, my nephews loved those stickers! And we aren't talking about Audie Murphy are we? I mean, he isn't a super big hollywood star but he was a war hero who starred in a movie about himself. I love how you spread your tag around--you are pretty darn funny. I guess I will have to address this and do the meme but it will probably be later on this week.

Heidi - I think it's safe to say, a little bit of me goes a long way!
And no it's not Audie Murphy; the actor saw his heyday in the 40s and 50s, but my war hero 6th cousin was already an old man by then...
And I await your meme with baited breath (and that's not to say that I just ate worms or nuthin...).

That's right, Jack! Bravo to your sense of history! He was the most decorated soldier in The Great War.
I never got the chance to meet him, but my Dad did years ago. It's fitting that we ended up back here in Tennessee, Alvin's home state.
And the iconic actor who portrayed him? None other than Gary Cooper!

Since SGT York was a member of my very own famed 82nd Airborne Divisions (before it became airborne, of course) I read about him as part of every new Private's obligation to study the Divisions' history.
Oddly enough, though, I just did some recreational reading about him last week. It was a compilation of short studies of famous warriors throughout history. It had a very detailed description of his combat action and many direct quotes, and painted a far fuller picture of his acomplishment as well as his state of mind than I had previously known.
A pretty remarkable man who pulled off an amazing feat of combat. I'm sure you're familiar with the facts of his combat experience, but I was struck by two things: his coolness under fire, and his reluctance to kill.
He kept his head and composure under, to put it mildly, trying circumstances, and went out of his way to spare lives even when it jepardized his own. A warrior/gentleman in the classic sense. A pity he isn't better remembered.
