Gravatar Couldn't agree more. Well put.

Gravatar Probably one of the best posts I've read regarding this issue in a while.

Gravatar Very well said.

Gravatar "The real issue, children, is not whether we need a long gun registry. The real issue is how this nutcase slipped through the background checks and obtained this weapon. All the registries in the world are useless if they can't do what they're designed to, which is to control who can own guns."

No skippy, THAT was the best post of the year.

Well said.

Gravatar Well said, Skippy.

Gravatar Tell me if I am dreaming..

Provinces have power, by Order in Council to make gun laws.

Would it be feasible for the Gun Clubs to be required to provide safe storage, on site (like safety deposit boxes) for restricted firearms?

Gravatar That proposal has already been floated, and shot down because of the obvious problem: it would concentrate a large number of firearms in one place, a place well known to the public, and therefore to anyone who would like to steal a large number of pistols.

Gravatar And besides, what if one of those trusted at the gun club decided to go on a rampage, or was forced to let someone in against his will?

I know of a fellow who shot himself one day in Kingston. The only reason he could commit suicide in that particular manner was because he was a member of the rifle team, and had access to the range.

Gravatar Grown-ups should be asking where the system failed

One would assume the grown-ups would have sought answers and solutions after Ecole Polytechnique 1989 or any other mass shooting rampage that occured in this country.

The evidence would suggest that exercise was ever performed. Should we expect anything different this time?

Gravatar Grownups are hard to find, Strangelove.

Gravatar "couldn't agree more" - Scott in Montreal.

That's a bit different from the comments you made at BPOC the other day. Just sayin'

Gravatar The usual analogy used to favour gun control is vehicle registration.
So correct me if i am wrong but can we not own a veh and keep it on our property without it being registered, as long as we dont drive it??

Gravatar Very few people would suggest that the Government should confiscate your car or a particular type of car. Many many people are trying to have the Government confiscate all or some firearms. This is why the registry is so hated. Don't think that it can't happen here? England and Austraila did it. Maybe we should ban Wiskey. Mr. Gill also drank some Wiskey. If a Nut Job decides to do this we are powerless to stop it. You cannot legislate sanity. How did he escape scrutiny with all the published crap he had on his blog? Someone surely could see this happening.

Gravatar If a Nut Job decides to do this we are powerless to stop it. You cannot legislate sanity.

I believe that's the challenge for the adults. Maybe what you're saying is true but it simply must not be something we resign ourselves to.

Stepping up to the challenge means avoiding the typical myopic focus on gun control. I'm no internet detective, but this nutcase surely left a trail of clues there.

I remember a teacher telling me a very long time ago about the vagrancy law. I'm going from memory here...he said it was a very loose piece of legislation containing provisions such as you must have some cash on you. If not, you could be considered vagrant. How was it used to thwart potential violence? According to this man, if you were to write a toxic enough letter to a newspaper regarding say a pending visit by the queen, you might be flagged. And if you happened to be in attendance while her motorcade was parading down Yonge Street, you might very possible get a tap on the shoulder at the moment her motorcade reaches you. Just a little shakedown by a couple of flatfeet to ensure your not a vagrant. By the time they're done with you, Lizzy's out of range. This is a pre-charter story. I don't know how the practice would hold up today.

How would similar detective work apply to internet snooping?

Gravatar What's the matter Candace? You can't handle someone having a nuanced position? What I am in agreement with Skippy on is that the primary lesson to be learned here is that we have to make sure existing controls work to keep arms out of the hands of unstable sociopaths. I am also 100% behind the gun registry and would like to see it strengthened. I believe we need to concentrate on both and it can be done.

Gravatar "nuanced"? puhleeze

Gravatar "nuance"

Am I the only one who needs Gravol everytime I hear that word?

Gravatar nuance nuance nuance nuance nuance nuance nuance!!!!!

How'd that work for ya?

Gravatar "No vomiting in comments" - I believe that's in Article 3, Subsection 1 of the Wonderdog Institute's bylaws. I suspect the fact that Skippy is inducing said vomiting will not be seen as an excuse by the site's proprietor.
