Unless he's already seen a poll that hasn't been published yet, he's mistaken. The Tories are at 37% in Calgary and 39% (I believe) provincewide.

Werner, the Calgary Herald story says this:
The poll shows that since September, Kevin Taft's Alberta Liberal party gained eight percentage points, jumping from 12 to 20 per cent. ...
... According to the poll, the NDP sits at five per cent, while the Greens are at seven per cent.
In Calgary, support for the Tories is 34 per cent, lower than Edmonton (37 per cent) and other regions outside of Alberta's two largest cities (45 per cent).
The story is badly written, because it intermingles Stelmach's approval rating with voter preference. Someone may not approve of the job Stelmach is doing, but that doesn't mean they won't vote for him.
The story contains no overall voter preference figure for the province, although it would be close to 39% given the three regional figures the Herald does provide. This is still almost double what the Liberals are polling at according to this poll.
The story also gives no figure for the Alberta Alliance, and no link to the actual poll. Poor reporting.
