Gravatar How unbelievable, how callous, how chilling.

www.grapevine.is

Hope this helps.

Gravatar yes, it is www.grapevine.is

Athenius

Gravatar It is grapevine.is and when you click on that you get an error message. I've seen this sort of attack on other blogs and it always blows my mind that people think they can behave like that all under the guise of anonymity. If you posted something I thought objectionable, vile, whatever, I might leave a comment that I disagreed with you and thought you were wrong, but profanity and insults is just wrong. Why do people believe they have the right to do that? I know on some blogs the blog owner moderates the comments before they are posted so that crap like that doesn't make it to the airwaves, at least on their blog. It is your blog after all.

Gravatar It's still www.grapevine.is.

However, it could be someone else setting up Grapevine for the fall guy...

Karen

Gravatar I found www.grapewine.is also.

M

Gravatar Thanks everyone, for your support.

Karen: that is a possibility, but the indications are pretty strong that it's the same guy.

Gravatar Still grapevine.is and it's still giving a SQL error.

As an aside, hello from Seattle! My fiance and I are going to have our honeymoon in Iceland next week. We've been reading your blog as a sort of preview of Iceland (and handy weather report), and enjoying it immensely. Thanks for writing!

Gravatar Thanks Melinda, and congratulations!
Hope you enjoy your honeymoon here immensely.

Gravatar I get www.grapevine.is. and an error message when one follows the link.

I found your site through "too much wool" and I have been enjoying it quite a bit. Cool northern places with lots of yarn and sheep are my favorite places.

Gravatar www.grapevine.is
What a sleuth you are, Alda! Good going!

Gravatar Aw that guy sounds like an ass. It's still www.grapevine.is by the way.

Also, neat blog. I have read through it a bit, though not at all thoroughly. I would like to finish my degree in Iceland, hopefully I´ll get the chance to go back.

Gravatar robyn,
thanks and welcome. sounds like Iceland is right up your alley.

Ruth,
I know, I'd make an excellent criminal.

Tom,
hi and welcome and thanks. Good luck!

Gravatar Searching for "jadetree" in association with grapevine leads to a Cambodian forum where a "jadetree" claims authorship of an article in GV about immigration. According to the site that was written by "Haukur Magnússon". There's a GV connection but this points away from Paul rather than at him. Maybe Haukur is a buddy or pseudonym.

The blogger profile (no actual blog) also points to GV but has no "jadetree".

Gravatar Still grapevine.is. Whatta maroon.

Gravatar Doggie,
yes, but if you read the message he's posted on that forum (www.khmer.cc - the creep factor intensifies) he talks about 'us' as in 'we the Americans'. In other words, he's an American. So it points towards Paul. Besides, he's the only one who has written rabid articles against Aron Pálmi in the Grapevine - and that's what this is all about.

Marcy,
A maroon indeed!

Gravatar Er, it keeps telling me this is a duplicate post, except it isn't. Still grapevine.is.

Gravatar I also get www.grapevine.is. Also, googling on jadetree and grapevine.is brought me to This link Where in his profile Jadetree identifies himself as Paul Fontaine-Nikolov.

Gravatar Jessica,
hm. strange. thanks for the support, though.

anon,
ditto!

Joseph,
Well. That is *exactly* what I wanted to see. Thank you SO much.

Gravatar Considering that I have seen you leave several opinions up that differ from your own, I can only imagine the derogatory nature a comment must take in order for you to remove it.

I looked at the www.khmer.cc site and did a search under the jadetree name. A lot of posts came up and just the few I clicked seemed to involve disputes. This coupled with the fact that he is still holding a grudge over a difference of opinion from a year ago and recommending people take negative action against you, well, he obviously has a combative personality. For hostility to become evident at a mere difference of opinion, I have to question the man’s center.

I also have to wonder if his motivation for forming an immigrant party stems from a genuine need or from a combative desire. To often causes are formed for no other reason than the need for a vehicle of contention. This is of course pure conjecture over a person I have never met and an ignorance of the political system in a land that I am not fortunate enough to dwell.

I do seem to remember reading in the Grapevine that he would no longer be working for them past July. Is he still supposed to be using their site as a homepage?

You do have my empathy on this and while I may not agree with everything you have ever said, I have always thought you honorable which makes me reiterate my first statement. This type of bullshit is undeserved.

I never would have thought a post involving sheep groping would lead this.

Also, yes on the link on the cruel.com member page is still grapevine.is

Gravatar Grapevine.is

How crazy making. Way to stand your ground my dear!

Gravatar Hmmmm. It didn't take long to ascertain his real identity. I think that's the case with a lot of these people who leave malicious commments all over the Net. They use multiple aliases but they're not always so careful to remove clues that point back to their real identity.

You could do some real damage to this guy's reputation by making (even more) public that comment he made about you, encouranging others to flame you. I'm sure the newspapers would be quite interested to know what this guy does in his spare time.

Of course, you may not want to further embroil yourself. I'd quite understand that.

Gravatar Well done. I thought that blogging was all about letting people vent and have their own opinions on things and to allow others to give their slant on the matter as well. Sad that it has to come to slinging matches of one sort or another. However, don´t you think that this is indicative of not only the bloggosphere but the reality of ethnocentrism in Iceland...? Just a thought..

Gravatar ps isn´t the weather crap at the moment????????' What happened to those three days of summer that we had last week?

Gravatar Jason,
A very thoughtful, insightful, interesting comment. Thank you.
Actually, I've only ever deleted two comments in my life. Both were from this guy. The second one was the one he sent this weekend.
As for the Grapevine job - evidently he's on paternity leave or something.

Signy,
we don't let the bastards get us down, now, do we?

Rozanne,
I have considered that option - and still consider it an option. OTOH I must say I don't find this very enjoyable - I'm afraid I lack the combative personality Jason refers to. It's a question of what I want to invest my time and energy on - and it's not this guy. This post is now up on the net for all to see who care to google his name. In future, if it were warranted, I could easily point the media in this direction.

Sigga,
the worst kind of weather. The absolute worst!

Gravatar Wow. I just happened upon this post after just posting about random HATE on my bloggie.

Sorry this happened, girl. Glad you outed the culprit.

Gravatar I know a girl who was in the first grade when her family found out that her step brother (age 13) was molesting her. I was a victim at age 5 of molestation by an older cousin, age 12. This is NOT 'playing doctor', it is child molestation.

A 6 year old showing another child around is age his 'private parts' or asking to see another childs 'private parts' is 'playing doctor'. A 12-13 year old putting the 'private part'of a child in their mouth is not. I was told not to tell or I would be beaten. I wonder what he told that little boy after he molested him. I can find no public records of his court case online telling the 'real' story, all that I find is what 'HE' says happened. Do you know the facts of the case? just curious, since you had such a strong opinion I thought you might know something more about the case than if available online.

https:// records.txdps.state.tx.us...number=05805271

It says -Aggravated Sexual Assault Child- and he is -High risk-

I think there is a lot more to the story than people in Iceland are being told.

Even though my opinion of this case is not the same as yours, I respect that you have the right to your own opinion.

It is a shame that your opinion has led to a public bashing. I suppose that is what comes with airing your views in an open venue. There will always be someone who can not control themselves when they do not agree with you.

Gravatar EM,
Thanks.

sad reader,
thanks for commenting and giving your views. I can appreciate where you're coming from. I can also appreciate that when people are emotionally invested, it's more difficult to have an objective view.
My view, however, is that a child that engages in behavior of that sort - whatever it is - needs help. Because he's a child, and not fully formed, there is perhaps a chance of providing that help. The approach of locking someone of that age up for ten years to 'rot in jail' just completely boggles my mind. Apart from the inhuman aspect of it, it just doesn't make any sense. That child will be even more damaged when he comes out of jail than when he went in, and therefore much more likely to do harm to society.
I guess I'm just not much of a believer in the eye-for-an-eye approach, or of letting revenge or hatred drive one's actions.

Gravatar Wow, I am absolutely floored. I am never going to look at the Grapevine the same way again. Do you think the staff is all in some big club or do you think there would be a point in bringing this up with the management? Personally, I wouldn't take any journalist seriously if he has this kind of personality. Seems like if one presents oneself as a public figure (both a staff writer and a politician) one has a certain responsibility to keep a rein on one's mouth in public forums as well.

Gravatar Actually Rebecca, on reflection I may just do that. Although my previous dealings with them were certainly less than satisfactory.

Gravatar Sorry you've had such trouble with this loser. Some people can be such big ***holes on the net...

Gravatar What a strange, sad, little man. I wonder if he wants all your loyal readers to troop over to his blog and tell him what and how to think? Usually, I let people have their own opinions, but in this case, I would love to tell him where to go with his.

Your blog, your rules. Paul needs to piss off already.

Gravatar John,
thanks.

Laura,
Very well said. Heh.

Gravatar Hello, Alda

I know we've had our disagreements in the past, but I can assure you that this "jadetree" character on Cruel.Com is not me.

Yes, I do use the "jadetree" name in the blogosphere. The name is taken from a record label, Jade Tree, and is fairly popular in certain circles, so it wouldn't surprise me if more than one person uses it.

I might've related the story of our last encounter to someone, and word got around. That happens in Iceland, as you know. One of these people, I imagine, decided to play a little joke by placing the comment about your blog on Cruel.Com.

Well, joke's on me, it seems. Here I am checking the SiteMeter of my own blog, I find a refering link from someone googling my name and "immigrant's party", and find this story.

Alda, the disagreement we had came and went. I'd forgotten about it until I stumbled upon your story here. Honestly, I have better things to do than encourage an online community to troll your blog. I have a child, am organizing a political party (as you pointed out), and am working full-time with disabled people. For me to post such a comment in an online community, leaving myself wide open to scorn at a time when I'm trying to win over popular opinion, would be downright foolish, even for me

In any event, while I can see how you might've reached your conclusion, this "jadetree" on Cruel.Com is not me but someone having themselves a great old time, at both of our expenses, apparently.

Do keep up the good work. Just because we've had a difference of opinion doesn't mean I carry some sort of grudge against you. If I did, I'd have no friends left

Cheers,
Paul F Nikolov
