If I recall correctly, Hitler was doing everything he can to eliminate "enemies of the state" in his time as well. We all know where that went. The documentary and its chilling parallels to what's happening in this country is here:

I get your point and I can see that this particular plot might never have gone anywhere. But imagine if on 9/10/2001 the Bush administration had made arrests of a bunch of arabs and announced that they planned to hijack planes and fly them into... you see where I'm going.

The widespread presumption would have been that the plot was ridiculous and that the arrests were an excuse for political adventuring.

So maybe we shouldn't be especially afraid of this bunch, but we need to take them seriously and punish them brutally, including following links to anyone who might have helped them.
