We have a bunch of these, and the've been fine for well over a year. Seems the high heat is what _appears_ to be causing the problems.
There are a bunch that are failing from Dell right now. We've had 6+ in the last month (one a month is high around here).
It's affecting the GX-270 and GX-280 line. So far the GX-620s seem to be ok.
Of course Dell keeps sending the wrong parts so 3-4 day delays occur instead of the 24hr fix that should be happening. Where's Unisys when you need them, NCR stinks.

My high school runs a computer shop and used Intel boards in the new build that went in the middle school labs last summer. I was told a month ago that ten had already had ruptured caps (out of maybe 100 computers).
Wonder what it is now?

I lost a Soltek motherboard to this problem earlier this year. Took me bloody ages to figure out what was wrong, it was exhibiting the wierdest behaviour.

This problem has been known for over 4 years now. I had this problem on my Abit KA7 motherboard and i have also seen lot of Compaq D530 pc´s with this problem.
It all comes down to the manufacturers trying to cut down cost with using capacitors from Taiwan instead from Japan(Rubicon)

IBM also on their Desktops.
I would venture to say that most, if not all, have been cleared.
Did about 20 myself.
Last year, both IBM amd Dell had a team that just went around Florida replacing the boards as the reports came in and were verified.
Indications were a constant rebooting.

We actually had a box go down here on a server for our test network here in the support department at Sunbelt a few months back. After a bit of troubleshooting and googling, I inspected the capacitors and sure enough... we got hit with the problem -- they were noticably bulged at the top.
Dell replaced it promptly.

I have had one GX-270 with this problem and the cap actually burst and oozed out its insides. Dell replaced the motherboard the next day onsite.
