Sunbeltblog comments

Gravatar Good to hear! Congrats and nice acquisition.

Gravatar REJOICE!!!!

Will you make it work on WinXP x64?

When I try to use Kerio on that I get told that it can't be used with servers, which this version of Windows is not. I think that was what it said anyway.

But yeah, good news :D

Gravatar 64 bit is not trivial but is certainly on the roadmap. As regards servers, I'll see what's possible.

Gravatar As certain modules in KPF are all based on kernel-mode API hooking (sort of rootikit-like technique), porting it to x64 will mean complete rewrire of the code...

Gravatar Thank you, Sunbelt! I've never heard of you before, but I'll definitely be adding your blog to my regular reading list. I was getting desperate as it looked like Kerio would just fade away into nothingness. As a very technical, security-minded person...I found it's interface to be exactly what I needed and nothing else I ever used could compare. Thanks again! I look forward to seeing what you guys can do with a great product!

Gravatar What about 2.1.5?

Make it open source :P?

Gravatar Must say I was pleasently surprise to hear the latest news regards you all obtaining Kerio Firewall.Feel it will be a good addition to your product line. I use version 2.1.5 (free) and have been happy with it.

Best for the Holidays and the New Year. Continue the good work.

Terry

Gravatar This is great news, espcially on the heels of Symatec dropping the Sygate free firewall. Smart move on the marketing side? Or was it R&D? Regardless, kudos to Sunbelt!!

Gravatar Bravo, Sunbelt! The cream continues to rise to the top!

Gravatar Thank you Sunbelt!

Looking forward to be using Kerio once again. Perhaps you can re-release version 2.1.5, as I know many users prefer that over the 4.x family.

Gravatar Kudos and fantastic, guys. When I found out that Symantec was buying Sygate, I felt about the same way I did when AOL bought Netscape. I cried in my beer.

Hearing this news about two products who are on the good side of the force makes me want to break into twirling and skipping!

Gravatar I learned about your rescuing of the Kerio Personal Firewall from today's Spyware Weekly newsletter (at spywareinfo.com). I want to add my profound thanks to what is bound to become a very long list of commenters. I have been using the various Kerio Personal Firewalls since it's programmers left the Tiny Personal Firewall company. I can't wait to try out your version when it is released.

Once it is in production I will promote your firewall on my website and in my various security forum postings.

Gravatar Thank You Sunbelt

Gravatar That's really good news, but I still prefer the old 2.1.5 version. The only problem is, it worked fine under Windows 2000 but when I installed Windows XP I sometimes have to reboot one ore more times to get it to work.
I would definitely buy a fixed 2.x version. I want a small and easy to use firewall without all that 4.x options

Gravatar This is great news to hear. What about Kerios Server Firewall? Do you plan to acquire this one, too, or will you try to open the "normal" PFW to server-systems, too? This would be big news!

As to the comment about v2.x, this would also be my suggestion for the future roadmap. Make the PFW modular and use IDS and ad-blocking as modules so customers of the old 2.x have a new perspective. Many of my customers liked the old one (better), 'cause of the low resources and clear way it worked. Don't take me wrong here, I like v4 but don't use ad-blocking or IDS (behind a NAT gateway it isn't really much of use and ads are something, the browser should handle in my yy opinion). So I would very much apreciate, if the "new Kerio" could be used like lets say Agnitums Outpost. Make the packet filtering the core and the other features a module each.

That would definitly be a great work!

And by the way: thanks for taking over

(grammar or spelling may be suboptimal 'cause writer is non-english )

Gravatar you better open it for servers. no need to see anything. IT IS possible. kerio just prevented server installation to rip off customers with a 500 $ price for servers. if this won't work on servers we will bash it to death.
this is not a threat but a reminder to not do the big commercial mistake kerio did. this comment from you sounds too familiar: "As regards servers, I'll see what's possible."
I KNOW it is technically possible. there is just a hardcoded barrier inside the code. don't even try to play with us.

have a nice day.

Gravatar Iam very happy to hear about this acquisition, because its not easy to find an alternative product for my customers, but now, Iam relax

Greets from germany & good luck for the future!

Niko

P.S. I think the same about the 2.15 version: its small, without additional functions and need not so much resources like the 4.x and is able to run on older PC's, that I used sometimes for internet gateways/proxys.

Gravatar Anon--hey, regarding the server comment, your points are completely valid. It's just that I don't have enough information, the acquisition is still in the process of completion, etc. Give me a couple of weeks to digest the Kerio product

I think you'll find Sunbelt is VERY fair with its pricing, support policies and general attitude about products.

Gravatar Hopefully, some of the lond outstanding bugs will now finanlly be fixed. I stopped using Kerio about a month ago, just giving me too much headaches...

Gravatar I would like to second the comments that desire Kerio to be more modular. I, too, only use the firewall and application behavior blocking and typically have the web and ids features disabled.

What I definitely don't want to see is more bulk added to Kerio (your spyware product, perhaps... without the ability to not install or use that extra bulk.

Gravatar Will you bother to fix the incompatibility of Keiro PF with OpenVPN? This has been a known issue for a long time...
Currently I'm recommending everyone to switch away from Keiro because of that...

Gravatar Anon...Sunbelt just did a great thing. No reason to issue ultimatums about how they should conduct their business.

Gravatar Anon- That was quite a rude comment. Tell me, would you spend say 1 million (arbitrary number)on product development knowing that only 500 (arbitrary number) people would buy it? Sure, anything is possibly no matter how improbable but this is a business, which is out to make money. There are costs associated with making significant changes to a product, of course you could offer to do it for free.
Also, people will take you more seriously if you learn proper grammer and syntax. I will point out that you give off the impression of a child having a temper tantrum yelling "Gimmie, gimmie, gimmie." If you would like to see changes happen try to be more constructive with your words.

Sunbelt, I am glad someone picked up Kerio and will continue development.

Gravatar Sunbelt - when I think of great products. Have been working with and suggesting your products for over 7 years. I am truly GLAD that you have purchased this product as it is all I ever recommend.

Say hello to Stu for me...

Get it here.

Gravatar Fine! I'm glab to hear it!

Gravatar I'm still with Sygate Personal Firewall now. [ The best there is !]
But i will try the new Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall next year i think.

Gravatar I tried Kerio 4.?. It totally trashed my system, interferred with shutdown and the running of other programs. Please have a good look at reviving a simple, no-frills firewall that controls both in and out from the computer to the internet with little interference to a LAN. Controls should be intuitive and response should be rapid with clear choices given to the user. Stopping all access should be one click or hot-key.

Gravatar Glad to see you picked up thus product. I hope you take it in the direction of 2.15, lean and efficient without the resource hogging bloat

Gravatar THX.

Keeping this good thingie free, will help us not to drown in work!

THX a lot!

Leon

Gravatar I am using KPF since ages and I was really worried about this excellent firewall to be dropped. Thanks Sunbelt, I am really looking forward to see further development on KPF.

Morten.
