Gravatar Re: Sony DRM controversy: I just heard Symantec warn of a new virus -Trojan.Welomoch - which according to symantec's site "Trojan.Welomoch is a Trojan horse that attempts to utilize XCP software to hide W32.HLLW.Antinny, which it drops on to the compromised computer. The XCP software is installed by inserting certain Sony BMG content-protected music CDs into the computer." Here's the link http:// securityresponse.symantec...n.welomoch.html

My question is can Sony be held liable though some hacker has taken this software and made it more evil than it already was?

Gravatar Cell phone data shouldn't be available as a free stalking tool, but a probable cause requirement for investigators seems a bit extreme. The information seems to be essentially the same as what could be obtained by following a person.

Companies should be careful with the data, it should be readily available to 911 operators, and it should be available to investigating authorities on a "relevant and material to an ongoing investigation" standard.

Gravatar
... There's already a company called PangoNetworks that sets up sensors in shopping malls to detect phones and PDAs and send ads to them.
Anyone want to start a pool as to when we'll see cell-phone spamvertising in malls?

Actually, as soon as a mall started this, they'd lose me as a customer instantly ...

Gravatar Too bad that Motorola is not employed this feature for the E815 or Razor. Verizon is my carrier and they are in the process of offering "live" inbound video/alert capability plus cable TV broadcasts in the future. Right now everything is sent "pre-recorded" video.

Nice concept because it makes that service available and allows the user to choose to use the online method at their discretion.
