It will take some patience. Do a pass with an av program, multiple passes with a couple of antispyware programs, scrubbing with Hijack This, you can get through it. Recommend running in Safe Mode while cleaning.

So basically to get rid of it you'll have to do a system scan with anti-spyware tools multiple times?

This thing is brand new. The AV programs I checked don't catch it. We'll have definitions in CounterSpy for it very soon. However, removal of this type of thing is extremely difficult, even for any antispyware program, which may not be able to remove all of it. That's why I recommend running multiple scanners. There might be an Add/Remove entry for SpywareQuake, check that as well.
You can always visit SpywareWarrior.com for help.

I just checked Add/Remove entry, that thing appeared there. however, when i pressed the "Change/Remove" button, it lead me back to the main window of that program.

One thing you can try is closing the window that it pops up after the Add/Remove and then restarting the PC.

Been trying to kick this thing for hours... from what I can tell the two executable programs that run it are "mssearchnet.exe" and "nvctrl.exe". If you click end process on either of them, they come back instantly. I've been able to temporarily fix it by closing "explorer.exe" and then ending both of those processes. If you run explorer.exe (Windows) again though, they come back.
I've tried uninstalling the program, tried manually deleting the program, and I 've tried to add/remove program option fron the control panel of windows. Also tried restarting immediately after I close it.
If anything, I'll just wait for Counterspy to update definitions for it.

Hey everyone. I just got this as well. I had no idea it was fake, and nearly got suckered into it.
Right now, I have that popup in the lower right corner of my screen.
I've run spybot - search & destroy and I thought it had removed everything but I guess not since it's back as I type this.

I figured out how to remove the Spyware Quake adware and stop it from re-installing.
Apparently the author of this insidious garbage is playing a little mind game with you. The answer to its removal is right in front of your face. Even though the software is fake, the list of files and registry entries it lists as threats are real. These threats were loaded by the adware itself in order to create a phony scare.
1) Start by actually running a scan using the "Spyware Quake" program itself. Then simply make note of the registry entries and infected files it lists in a text file and save it to your desktop.
2) Go to Add/Remove programs and remove "Spyware Quake". Go to Program Files on C: and delete the Spyware Quake folder.
3) Open the text file you made in the previous step. Run regedit, search for the entries you noted and delete them.
4) Reboot your PC and hit F8 to go into safe mode. Open your text file again, this time run a search for the files you noted. Most likely they will be in the Windowssystem32 folder. Hit Shift+Delete right in the search window to remove the files. When finished, reboot.
That should do it. It took me a few hours of uninstalling and scanning with half a dozen adware and virus scanners only to have Spyware Quake reinstall itself minutes later along with a persistant warning message. Follow my steps and you will remove both annoyances. It worked for me.

I spent too much time this weekend removing it. There's some *.dll files that refuse to be deleted. But a second pass (I used three programs in sequence, following some guide) in safe mode, wound up doing the job.

Stay out of my computer you pest, you are what I call a cyberstalker, which we have people to deal with you. Microsoft got very heavily fined for invading peoples computers and that is what you are doing, you are like an annoying telemarketer, we are sick of it. You force yourselves into our computers and expect us to pay for what, more virus', if I want your program I would have bought it.

I had a little different experience with this Quake thing. I ran Yahoo Anti Spy which found and deleted the Quake trojan horse. I deleted all the Quake software by hand. But they had hijacked my Internet Explorer, so I ran a System Restore and it seems to have worked OK. So far.

Hi there,
Came across this site whilst researching Spyware Quake and thought I'd recommend the program that managed to remove this nasty from my PC quickly and easily after hours of frustration.
It's called Prevx1 (http://www.prevx.com). They are also offering a Free Trial that will scan your machine and remove all infections completely free of charge!
All good so far :o)

Everyone, thank you for the advice I am running counterspy right now. I have spent hours tring to end process on the program so that I could delete the four programs d0f46834, vwlummc.dll, {6FA3A5EE-07DD-4696-BB13-723D1CE1D26C}, and {EFE158A9-B314-482D-BFE2-F9BECD714378}. Thank you again.

Thanks for all the info! I ran CounterSpy first. It found the files that you said needed to be deleted in minutes, but the program ran for another hour checking the entire computer before I could delete the files. By this time another family member got on (who didn't seem to care about the pop-up crud). On my return I decided to try the prevx1. It let me get rid of Spyware Quake and then do a full check. I used both to evaluate the remaining questionable files.

I had this damn thing also. All I did to get rid of it is Run Live update on spyware doctor ( my real spyware detector) and then let it scan; it caught all 116 files and removed them. I had to reboot one time and let spyware doctor check it once more. Was no problem.

i got rid of it by closing all the apps that it opened p using taskmanager, use End Process Tree, not just End Process. After they are all gone and stop appearing, delete all the exe in the spyware quake2 folder (the others can be deleted at all times, but the apps running in task manager prevent the .exe from being deleted)
AD-aware se personal detects this (get rid of it fast by searching just the spyware quake and Windows folders) then do a full scan afterwards

We haven't got the program on our computer to delete or get rid of, only the pop-ups that lead to a download page for spywarequake, being a bit doubtfull I came looking for some advice on what to do with it, I am definatley not going to download it now but I still don't know how to get rid of the popups and other problems, we have put zonealarm security suite on since and it failed to pick it up.

We all have same problem.
I try to remove normal way too but it back or simply says files are in use.
Find the small dos program that kills these things and run in safe mode. all fixed, but make sure you have a good firewall. I think Tiny Firewall pro is better than zone alarm and shit, have AVG cos its good and use hijack this and stuff. no need to panick. if you like looking at porn you'll simply keep encountering the same sort of thing but thats the price you pay... i guess. otherwise get linux and stop being lazy
