For people who have web sites on
hosting providers that provide cpanel,
how might they recognize if their
web sites were infested with this exploit?
Depends. If the hacker wants people to know, by defacing the websites, they'll know easily.
But some hack sites because they're spammers. And they don't want the owners to know. They'll try to fly under the radar. They'll place files in people's accounts that they hope they won't find, and direct traffic there that redirects to the spammers pages.
There might be other motives for hacking sites, where the signs will be even less obvious.
