Alex, you really need to do more research before trying to link Spitzer's problems to the NSA or warrantless wiretaps.
From what I've seen read the government's investigation started when one Gov. Spitzer's banks report suspicious financial transactions to the IRS. Any wiretaps involved in this case grew out of the investigation of those financial transactions.
It wouldn't surprise me to learn that it was the investigation it those suspicious financial transaction that led the feds to the prostitution ring.
