if the dnschanger just changes dns replys, wouldn't the stopzilla, etc, sites be able to detect the dns spoofing through the http Host header?
to what degree do they accept buys over malware-redirection?

OK, correct me if I'm wrong here: Norton & Spyware Doctor, etc (inc. CounterSpy), won't stop you getting these ads, but should detect and delete them. Crap way of advertising, glad to hear CounterSpy isn't among them.

Maik,
These programs advertised _should_ remove the very programs that they're being advertised in.

Hopefully you reported these violations to the vendors...
Any legitimate vendor that runs an affiliate program will have a "no spam / adware" policy, and by reporting these violations, you can hurt these spammers where it hurts the most -- in the wallet.
It also opens the doors for ethical affiliate marketers to refer more sales.
Thanks,
Tom

Simon here for PC Tools.
We have a very strict policy on affiliates and regularly shut affiliates down for doing (much) less than this. But in this case these are NOT affiliates. The DNS Changer Trojan actually uses a "pay-per-click" feed from a paid search engine, not affiliate relationships. So we and the other products have no relationship with them at all other than the fact we advertise on search engines.
PC Tools notified the search engine about this threat previously and the DNS changer distributors should not be receiving commissions any more. The search engines are usually very quick to shut off these types feeds as the advertisers, like PC Tools, will refuse to pay for fraudulent traffic such as this.
And yes, Spyware Doctor and PC Tools AntiVirus do detect and remove this threat, including the free versions; http://www.pctools.com/spyware-d...or/google_pack/
and http://www.pctools.com/free-antivirus/
